“Soon her eye fell on a little glass box that was lying under the table: she opened it, and found in it a very small cake, on which the words ‘EAT ME’ were beautifully marked in currants. ‘Well, I’ll eat it,’ said Alice, ‘and if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door: so either way I’ll get into the garden, and I don’t care which happens!'”
– Lewis Carroll (Alice In Wonderland Chapter 1)
My adventure to Max Brenner was similar to Alice’s adventure down the rabbit hole! Once she entered a new world, she encountered new drinks and foods that was surely enticing and unavoidable. While staring at the Max Brenner menu I could slowly sense myself being hypnotized into a world of chocolate heaven.
Max Brenner is a restaurant full of imagination and charm. When you step inside the aroma of chocolate overtakes your senses. Unknowingly, I kept wanting to indulge in more and more chocolate — although, I am not a chocolate fan. Rather than looking at the dinner menu first, I suggest scanning through the dessert menu as that is where all the chocolate is offered. They offer a variety of fondue choices — you are bound to find the one that touches your heart the most. Since I was a chocolate amateur, I settled for the Classic European Fondue! The classic gave three chocolate dipping options — toffee, milk, and dark. I throughly enjoyed munching on the soft cookie as I would dip it into the melted and warm milk chocolate.
Afterwards, I ordered a drink from the Choctail menu (non-alcoholic for now), it was part of the Alice in Wonderland themed drinks. Since I am a huge fan of cake batter I ordered the cake batter shake, which came out in a cute mug that said, “Drink Me.” It was impossible not to drink the shake as the smell slowly enticed my taste buds. Although, I was over-consuming sweets I did not feel sick — perhaps I really was hypnotized into a chocolate world.
After all the sweets I had with my friend, we decided it was time to eat something savory so we eventually opened the dinner menu and ordered the Onion Rings that came with Chocolate Ranch (chocolate was everywhere in the menu) and the Molly’s White Corn Croquette. We realized that chocolate was the main ingredient and unavoidable inside the four walls of Max Brenner. After munching on the savory I could feel myself getting full and even larger in size. The order of having sweets after savory is an idea that fails to exist here. My tip in Max Brenner is to always, no matter what, start with dessert.
After leaving Max Brenner, I can attest that I am now a newborn chocolate fanatic. I’ll be back, definitely, next time for Brunch! I’m already looking forward to the chocolate filled waffles!
P.S. If you are clumsy, like me, for safety precautions put a napkin on your lap because the chocolate fondue can get messy. Also, if you are going after work, be sure to not wear white that day, unless you plan on having white chocolate!
