Fried Friday Feasting

Oh Junior’s, how I long to go there everyday and eat to my heart’s content without worrying about my health.

Junior’s a family-friendly restaurant that offers an extensive menu that will satisfy everyone in your family. The restaurant is known to house the best cheesecake, which is why many tourists will come here, as well. To top it off, since it is located among the Broadway theaters, it is crowded with theater-goers before and after the show. Be prepared to wait for 15-30 minutes but come hungry since once you start eating, you’ll want to keep eating.

From L-R: Something Different Sandwich, Onion Rings, Potato Pancake, Fish & Chips

For two girls we over ordered our meal; however, I have no regrets because every item that we ordered proved to be worth the weight gain afterwards.

We ordered two appetizers — potato pancake with apple sauce and onion rings. The potato pancake is a dish for all hash brown and pancake lovers. Now you can get the best of both worlds in one dish! Yay! The apple sauce allows the dish to have a sweetness appeal while tasting savory, all at the same time! The onion ring was thick and breaded — a dish that can almost stand on its own. The onion is thin whereas the flour is breaded and thick. At first bite, you may not even taste the onion!

Something Different … for my taste buds

Entree #1: Something Different Sandwich. It consists of brisket of beef meshed in between two potato pancakes with au jus, mushroom gravy, and apple sauce. I first discovered potato pancakes through my first visit to Junior’s. After falling in love with the alternative hash-brown style potato dish I ventured to try the sandwich version. For any potato pancake fan, this dish was made for you. The brisket was tender and thinly sliced that it did not hinder the taste of the potato pancake. I think I now know why they did not offer fries with this sandwich, the potato pancakes do the duty of a bread and a fry. This is my favorite dish and would go back to Junior’s just for this.

Hello London, From NYC

Entree #2: Fish & Chips. Deep fried cod, french fries, and cole slaw. I’ve been to London and ate plenty of their fish & chips. This dish was good but I would not order it again since it did not stand out. The fish was crispy due to the breaded and fried flour but the fish was salty on the inside. For the price I paid for this dish, it did not live up to my expectations.

A slice of heaven

The Finale: Red velvet cheesecake. The reason why people come to Junior’s. Trying out the food menu is a discovery whereas the cheesecake is the treasure and ultimately the desirable goal. The cheesecake was on the inside, between the two breaded red velvet layers. The cream cheese was on the side and the top of the cake. The cream cheese had a slightly softer texture, as my friend noted. I, however, did not notice a difference. Along, with this cheesecake I also recommend the strawberry cheesecake!

Remember, when in Junior’s, have a cheesecake … and a potato pancake!

Tip: Want to avoid the crowds of people and waiting? Go during Broadway show hours because before and after those shows, swarms of people will come looking for food!
